I've sailed on both a Royal Caribbean and a Virgin Voyages cruise ship. The Virgin Voyages cruise cost $4,000 more, as it was a luxury, adults-only ship in a higher-tier cabin. The Virgin Voyages cruise was more worth the price, but the Royal Caribbean ship was great for families. Royal Caribbean and Virgin Voyages offer completely different experiences. The seven-night Caribbean cruise took me to Roatán, Honduras; Cozumel and Costa Maya, Mexico; and Royal Caribbean's private island in the Bahamas.

“I WANT a traditional kitchen—but make it cool.” Today, younger, hipper homeowners are texting designers with such seemingly irreconcilable desires. They want a look they can relate to. The layered kitchen, a neo-traditional approach that artfully patches together materials and styles. Cabinets typically vary, too: Paint might coat the lower set, often Shaker style, while the upper set sports glass fronts edgily framed in blackened steel. Next to this look, the standard monolith of same-color cabinets seems as dated as a matching lipstick, blouse and pumps.

How to Create a Soulful but Up-to-Date Kitchen

DON’T LET the exposed brick fool you. Until recently, this vibrant kitchen in Bedford-Stuyvesant, Brooklyn, was dingy, dull and stripped of original details—the victim of a hit-and-run renovation that removed every bit of character from the circa-1900 row house, says architect-designer Sarah Jacoby. Reintroducing structure and a sense of craftsmanship via a swath of handmade Shaker-style cabinetry from deVOL, a U.K. firm beloved for their traditional benchmade joinery. Hand-painted in vivid Scullery Yellow, the cupboards strike the ideal balance between historic and “of the now,” said Jacoby. “It’s just a much more welcoming place to be now,” said the owners.

Nov 14 (Reuters) - The ball with which Australian Gareth Morgan claimed six wickets in an over to seal the unlikeliest of victories in a local match will get a special display thanks to the Mudgeeraba Nerang and Districts Cricket Club president, the player said on Tuesday. "I have (kept the ball)," Morgan told the BBC. "My club president told me to give to him and he'll make sure to mount it on something special." Morgan said the umpire had joked with him about needing a hat-trick in the final over and both were left stunned. Below is the final over in Morgan's words:*FIRST BALL"I came in to a guy who was batting well... in the sixties.

Inside Passalacqua, the 'world's best hotel'
  + stars: | 2023-10-19 | by ( Maria Pasquale | ) edition.cnn.com   time to read: +8 min
CNN —The “best hotel in the world” was built by a pope and was regularly visited by one of Italy’s most famous opera composers. On 19 September in London at the inaugural World’s 50 Best Hotels, the hotel on Lake Como was named number one. Passalacqua didn’t invent the term villeggiatura, but her every detail embodies it – a romantic 18th century villa turned faultless luxury hotel where you come to exhale and leave your worries behind. Rooms without a lake view start at 1,300 euros ($1,381) per night or 1,700 euros ($1,806) for a view in November – lowest season. Next summer, rates rise to 2,300 euros ($2,443) for a standard room without a lake view, or 3,200 ($3,400) for the cheapest room with a view.

ROME, Oct 5 (Reuters) - Italian authorities have impounded a vessel operated by a Spanish charity, the group said on Thursday, after it carried out multiple rescues of migrants stranded in the Mediterranean. The Open Arms group said in a statement it had completed three rescues on Saturday picking up 176 people at sea, which included more than 90 unaccompanied minors. The boat docked on Wednesday in the central Italian port of Carrara to disembark the migrants. Temporary seizure orders had already been imposed on three charity boats - including the Open Arms - in August. Migrant arrivals nearly doubled in Italy this year compared with 2022.

FOR MOST OF the 2000s, white Calacatta and Carrara marble, with their subtle colorations, reigned as interior design’s status stones. “Everyone” craved the gray and gold hints of color that ran through the marbles popular then, recalled Gabriela Cruz, vice president of operations with Nash Stone Group in Farmingdale, N.Y.What no one would have guessed at the time was that a marble shot through with wine-red veining would dethrone white marbles so handily in the 2020s. But Calacatta Viola, with its rivulets of aubergine and burgundy, has done just that. Today customers want marble with color and life, notes Ms. Cruz, who theorizes that a post-Covid desire for vibrancy is driving the passion for the stone. Chicago designer Caroline Turner, who recently installed a kitchen worktop and backsplash in the material, says demand for Viola has reached a “fever pitch.”
